WILLIAM VALENTINE was born in 1783.(3) He married Elizabeth Moore. William's family sided with the Colonists and his father is said to have served in the Continental Army. His uncles were said to be Tories and because of this bad feeling within the family, William's family changed the name to "Vollentine" but this spelling changed back to the original by later descendants.(4) William lived in the Orangeburg District, South Carolina, where Allen was born in 1808 and he probably moved with his sons to Mississippi in the 1820's.

The children of William and Elizabeth were: Allen (see above), born 27 May 1808, died 5 March 1901, and married Cynthia Welch; Ben; Levi; Patrick; and Darrell.
