MOORE

LORITA MOORE was born on 4 January in Dallas, Texas. After completing Ward Belmont College in Tennessee, she taught school in Marshall, Texas. On 31 December 1917, in Dallas, Texas, she married Thomas Howell Keoun (see Keoun) of Marshall. T. H. was a partner in a drug store in Marshall and later organized his own music and furniture store. Lorita is active in many social and community projects in Marshall.

RICHARD FRANCIS MOORE was born on 1 March 1861 near Mattoon, Illinois, and died on 6 May 1921 at Dallas, Texas.(2-6) On 27 March 1890, at Dallas, Texas,(3) he married, first, Mary Newton Hamill (see Hamill) who was born in Alabama in April 1868 and died on 20 November 1905,(6) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. They are both buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. Richard was a teacher of penmanship and art and later was a school supervisor. Because of his wonderful personality, knowledge of teaching and ability to demonstrate and to sell, Professor Moore was invited to be one of the organizers of the Practical Drawing Company of Dallas, Texas, which specialized in school supplies.

Their only child was Lorita (see above). Richard was the son of

THOMAS PARKER MOORE was born on 18 June 1839 and died 30 August 19045 and married Maria Ann Gray who was born on 18 December 1844 and died 14 July 1908.(5) She was the daughter of John Gray and his wife, a "Curry." Thomas and Maria Ann are buried in Hill Crest Cemetery, Forney, Texas.

Thomas and Maria Ann lived near Mattoon, Illinois, and it was here that most of the children were born.

They left Illinois about 1877 and stayed for three years in Missouri and Kansas where Thomas is thought to have been a constable or some type of peace officer. They arrived in Texas about 1879/80 and settled at Forney. Some of Maria Ann Gray's brothers came to Texas with them. They were Will, a bachelor, John, and Tom Grey.

The children of Thomas and Maria were: (4) Elizabeth M., married a Campbell; Richard Francis (see above) was born 1 March 1861, died 6 May 1921, and married Mary Newton Hamill; Alice M., born 22 February 1867 and married a Smith; Walter, born 5 May 1869, died January 1923, and married Mary Hill; Edna M., born 15 April 1876 and married, first, John Stegall, and, second, Horace Thomas; and Thomas Parker, born in Texas 1 April 1885.

Thomas was the son of

DAVID SOLOMON MOORE married, first, a Parker who is thought to have been from Chicago or related to some Parkers of Chicago.. The name of his second wife is not known.

The children of David were: Thomas (see above), born 18 June 1839, died 30 August 1904, and man:ied Maria Ann Gray; a sister married a "Shaw" who was a musician;(4) and possibly others.
